Built by a freelancer who got burned by taxes

Founder, SoloTaxHub

I'm a software developer who started taking on freelance projects on the side. In 2023, I made about $34,000 from side work and didn't set aside a single dollar for taxes. Come April, I owed the IRS roughly $9,200 between self-employment tax, federal income tax, and state tax — plus a $287 underpayment penalty because I hadn't made quarterly payments.

That sting taught me two things: first, the tax burden on 1099 income is real and significant; second, most online tax calculators are either buried in ads, demand your email before showing results, or use outdated rates. I built SoloTaxHub to solve both problems — a clean, fast, private tool that gives you the numbers you need without the noise.

How We Keep Our Tools Accurate

Tax rates change every year. To keep SoloTaxHub reliable, I update the federal tax brackets, standard deductions, and state tax rates as soon as the IRS and state revenue departments publish them for the new tax year. All calculations are based on publicly available data from:

  • IRS.gov — official federal tax brackets, standard deductions, and SE tax rules
  • IRS Publication 334 — tax guide for small business owners
  • IRS Publication 505 — estimated tax rules and safe harbor details
  • Individual state revenue department websites for state income tax rates

Not a substitute for a CPA

SoloTaxHub is built by a developer, not a tax professional. While the math follows IRS rules, real-world tax situations involve credits, special deductions, and individual circumstances that a calculator can't capture. Use these tools for planning and estimation, then consult a CPA or enrolled agent when it's time to actually file.

What Makes SoloTaxHub Different

Zero data collection

Every calculation runs in your browser. We don't have a database of user incomes because we never see them. Your financial data stays on your device.

Actually fast

No loading spinners, no "calculating..." delays. The numbers update instantly as you type because there's no server round-trip.

No gates

No email required. No "create an account to see results." No paywall. The calculator works the moment the page loads.

Real sources

We link directly to IRS publications wherever tax rules are explained. No vague claims — you can verify everything yourself.
